Your privacy matters. refine.page is designed with a privacy-first approach — we never collect, store, or transmit your data to any servers.
The Short Version
- No servers. We don't operate any servers that receive your data.
- No tracking. No analytics, no telemetry, no cookies.
- You're in control. All data stays on your device.
- Opt-in only. Nothing happens until you choose to capture.
Data Storage
All data created by refine.page is stored locally on your device using the Chrome storage API. This includes:
- Page snapshots you capture
- Annotations and labels you create
- Questions and answers you add
- Your review notes and decisions
This data never leaves your browser unless you explicitly choose to export it.
No Server Communication
refine.page does not communicate with any external servers. We don't have servers to receive your data — the extension operates entirely within your browser.
There is no:
- Cloud storage or sync
- Analytics or usage tracking
- Error reporting to external services
- Network requests to our infrastructure
Explicit Opt-In Required
refine.page requires your explicit action before doing anything. The extension does not:
- Automatically capture pages
- Run in the background
- Monitor your browsing activity
- Access page content until you initiate a capture
You must actively click to capture a page. Until then, the extension remains dormant and does not interact with the pages you visit.
Your Data, Your Control
You have complete control over your data:
- Export — Download all your data as JSON files at any time
- Import — Restore data from your backups
- Delete — Remove individual items or clear all data
- Portability — Your exported data is in standard formats you can use elsewhere
Browser Permissions
refine.page requests only the permissions necessary for its core functionality:
- Active Tab — To capture the current page when you click the capture button
- Storage — To save your snapshots and annotations locally
We follow the principle of least privilege — requesting only what's needed, when it's needed.
Open Source
refine.page is open source. You can review our code at any time to verify these privacy claims:
